Chick Care
Litter/Bedding- Keep clean and dry to prevent disease. Wood Chips
and Peat Moss are the best bedding.
Water- Water is very important for your chickens. When the chickens
first arrive add Vitamins and Electrolytes to the water so you chickens
will get a good start. Sugar can also be used. Also you should dunk
beaks of the chicks to show them where the water is.
Feed- Keep feed at all times except for meat birds.
Draft- Cardboard Rings work well for the drafts. *Remember round
your corners. This can reduce the amount of piling.
Temperature- For the Temperature keep an eye on your chicks, they
are the best thermometers. If the chickens are keeping a way from the
heat source it is to hot. If the chickens are crowding under the heat
source the temperature is to cold. If the chicks are evenly dispersed
around the area the temperature is right. For best results the
temperature should be around 90-95 degrees.
Predators- Keep your area secure. Dogs, cats, raccoons, and rats can
kill a whole flock of chickens if you are not careful. Remember to
lock doors, and make sure all small spaces are closed off to predators.
